Venkateshwara Research and Breeding Farm Pvt. Limited (VRB), a Joint Venture between ISA Babcock Ithaca, N.Y. USA and Venkateshwara Hatcheries Limited, was established in 1980, for undertaking pureline research and breeding work for egg-type chicken suited to Indian agro-climatic and market conditions.

The Next Generation

VRB with facilities to evaluate 150,000 birds in cages and a state-of-the-art egg quality laboratory and latest generation computers, has the most modern facilities for genetic research. Huge volumes of data on egg production, egg quality, body weight, feed consumption, and other traits are collected and analyzed. Based on these analyses, the most productive birds with best livability are chosen as pedigree candidates.

The BV 300 layer and layer breeder are the result of this dedicated effort which has spanned 30 years. Today with an 80% + market share, in spite of the competition from several other breeds, the BV 300 is still the market leader.

The pureline operations of VRB are located in the environment friendly outskirts of Pune and headed by Dr. G L Jain. Grandparent operations are also based in Pune.

Recognition

In recognition of its R&D efforts, the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology conferred upon VRB the National Award for R&D Efforts in Industry in 1994.

The turnover of VRB in 2002-03 was Rs 61.7 Millions of which Rs. 61.7 Millions (32 percent) was spent on R&D.

Since 1981 VRB is recognized as In House R & D Centre by Govt. of India. The average R & D expenditure (Revenue & Capital) as a % of turnover from 1981-2010 is 38%.

Dr.B.V.Rao the founder of VH Group of companies established a joint venture with Cobb-Vantress Incorporated, USA in the year 1980 with an objective of providing Indian Broiler Farmers, an economically viable broiler breed most suitable under Indian agro-climatic conditions and husbandry practices.

Venco Research & Breeding Farm Pvt. Ltd. is engaged in pure line breeding of broilers with a commitment to breed broiler/broiler breeder under Indian agro-climatic conditions and husbandry practices which includes feed and feeding practices. Venco started its pure line breeding program with Vencobb100 as its main product in the year 1981. Indian broiler Industry is in most dynamic state and is constantly growing at rate of more than 8-10% annum. Based on needs of the changing market in India, Venco has been on forefront to provide the Indian Broiler Industry the products tailor made to suit their requirements. Currently Venco is marketing two products in Indian Market viz. Vencobb400Y & Vencobb430Y.

All Vencobb products are constantly improved in all major traits of economic importance making it more profitable to Indian broiler farmers. Vencobb products have been very popular among Indian Broiler farmers due to its highest profit margin /rupee invested by the farmers and its ability to perform under sub-optimal conditions. Venco has been constantly upgrading & expanding its research facilities in order to provide a product that is most profitable and adapted to India agro-climatic conditions and husbandry practices. Venco is also engaged in breeding of coloured birds over a decade. A look-alike of desi birds, color birds of Venco are more prolific and economical with best feed conversion among similar products. This product is most suitable for rural upliftment programs of Government besides commercial farming.

Venco Research & Breeding Farm Pvt. Ltd. is the only Broiler Breeding Program in India and only third in the world besides the two in USA & Europe. Vencobb products enjoy a prominent position in Indian Market for more than 4 decades with over 70% market share of 5 billion Broilers. Venco has Grand Parent units all over the country to facilitate the supply of Vencobb breeders to its customers all over the country. Vencobb products have consistently outperformed all internationally reputed broiler breeds that are marketed in India over last 4 decades.
